About This Ride
What makes this route special
Zanskar is Ladakh's secret — a valley that resisted connectivity for so long that it's still largely off-grid. To get there you leave the Leh-Kargil highway at Kargil, climb into the Suru Valley (which looks like a volcanic aftermath in the best possible way), and cross the Pensi La into one of the most isolated inhabited valleys on Earth. Padum, the 'capital', has maybe three guesthouses and one ATM that may or may not work. Phugtal Monastery is a two-hour trek from the nearest road and was literally built into a cave in the cliffside in the 12th century. This is not a tourist circuit — it's an adventure into what Ladakh looked like before Instagram found it.
